PRESS RELEASE | May 20, 2021

Join therapist/professor William J. Koehler, Ph.D. LCSW, as he shares his journey of hope and healing in his first book.

Not only is William launching his memoir of a journey to face skeletons in the closet, ghosts in the attic, and monsters beneath the bed, but he’s also announcing the development of an online self-help course designed to help readers on their own journey from a triggered, drama-driven life to living from a centered place of safety. The course and accompanying self-help workbook is filled with personal vignettes, journaling prompts, practical and actionable tools, and skill-building activities. The combination of tools helps create authentic travelers’ guides to navigate quests and face the dark corners of their past.

“As practitioner, therapist, speaker, and educator, not only have my own life experiences crafted my authentic journey, but they’ve set me on a mission to help others heal from past traumatic events that keep them from living a life they truly deserve. This book is just the start of a journey to defeat life’s greatest monsters,” said Koehler.

William J. Koehler, Ph.D., LCSW, is owner of Journey to a Trauma Informed Life, LLC, and Assistant Professor of Social Work at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He began serving as a trauma-informed clinician in 2005 and has since become a respected trainer, instructor, researcher, and consultant in his field. His specialty areas are working with the LGBTQ+ community and helping children and adults exposed to childhood violence and abuse.

Dragons & Disco Socks takes a deep dive into a two-year quest to rescue an abandoned inner child from the clutches of his nemesis, the Sparkly Man. Through a controversial technique called Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), the author is guided by his trusted therapist to discover a part of himself trapped in an agonizing pattern of reliving his past. She helps him resurrect his imaginary childhood friends to form a ragtag band of travelers who help him navigate through distorted memories to set his younger self free.

Anyone who finds themselves stuck in a cycle of repeating past mistakes, negative self-talk, or toxic relationships will find this tale inspiring. Koehler invites you to pick up his book, experience his adventure, and shine a beam of hope into the dark corners of your own past.  Who knows what long-exiled parts of you will find light and healing along the way?
